Lumbar Spinal Decompression
Dr. Howard Dennis and his team at Elizabethton Chiropractic understand when back pain starts to interfere with your daily life, many wonder what is the best method to relieve it? Of course, there are several methods you might choose to take. You could be thinking about choosing to take the route of pain medications, which is never a good method to rely on for long-term pain relief. There is also the decision that so many have made, or may be considering at this time, of having back surgery to relieve pain. This method however, requires a long recovery process without a firm guarantee of positive results.
At this point, you may be asking yourself “what other option should I consider?” Allow us at Elizabethton Chiropractic to suggest a pain free alternative to these other suggestions. Dr. Howard W. Dennis and his professional team at Elizabethton Chiropractic offer Lumbar Spinal Decompression, which is a stress free, non-surgical procedure to help with debilitating low back pain, leg pain and degenerated spinal disc symptoms. Spinal decompression relieves pressure on the spine, helps ease sciatic issues, treats degenerated discs symptoms and relieves symptoms of posterior facet syndrome. We use the DRX9000™ True Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression Lumber Device in our office in Elizabethton, which is a state of the art decompression method.
When Dr. Howard Dennis has determined the DRX9000™ to be beneficial for you, his Elizabethton Chiropractic team will simply harness you up and lay you on your back as the DRX9000™ gently has an algorithmic pull to create a negative intradiscal or vacuum effect at your specific affected level of your lumbar spine. It’s non-invasive and comfortable. This vacuum effect relieves the compression of the nerves and discs (which are soft gel pads between your vertebrae), creating negative pressure. This relief of pressure can help herniated or bulged disc sufferers return to their normal routines of life. Treating the specific discs can relieve pressure on the nerves along the spine, as well as allow water, oxygen and nutrients to flow back into the discs which is called imbibition and osmosis. When this happens, the healing process will begin to take place.
Many back surgery candidates have come to see Dr. Howard Dennis at Elizabethton Chiropractic, looking for alternative methods for relief and have tried spinal decompression method with great success. Results will vary by patient, but we are proud to say that we have had a great success rate in getting patient members relief, restoring mechanical function for patients and helping to revitalize their life. Results from the use of the Spinal Decompression machine usually are not immediately noticeable. So, immediate results should not be expected. Normally, several treatments are required before a noticeable change can occur. Healing is a process and takes time. Dr. Howard Dennis will look at your specific needs and damage to your spine, so he is able to determine the number of treatments you will need to help to restore you back to your most wanted health, function and pain relief.
The great news about this kind of therapy treatment is that its benefits are not only focused on low back pain. While the decompression machine focuses on the specific levels of the lumber spine, this therapy also has benefits for patients with stenosis symptoms and sciatica issues. The nerves in your lumbar spine connect to your lower extremities, but when the disks are out of place, they can pinch the nerves causing pain in the other areas, which are connected. Many patients of Dr. Howard Dennis have come to see him and his Elizabethton Chiropractic team for their sciatic pain in the buttocks running down their leg sometime even into the toes and have been able to get back on the road to recovery.
The Spinal Decompression therapy we offer here at Elizabethton Chiropractic is a very comfortable treatment for the patients. Before your treatment begins, Dr. Howard Dennis or one of the professional Chiropractic Therapy Assistants will bring you into the Decompression Room to help prepare for the treatment to begin. You will then be fitted with a harness belt around your waist, as well as a piece for your upper torso. As you step up onto the machine, you will stand in position for the table to be laid down. After the table is in position, your legs will be propped up by a wedged cushion for comfort, as well as for maximum benefit from the machine. A strap will then be fastened from the machine to the harness belt around your waist. The therapist will then make sure that all the straps on your belt and torso piece are snug and fastened properly. You will also be given a pillow for your head if you so desire for comfort. At this time, the table will be unlocked in the middle so that the logarithmic pull at your specific vertebral level will be optimized. Then, the treatment will begin. You will feel the mild pressure of the pull which some say gives them relief instantly. The machine is set up to go through a period of cycles that last anywhere from 15-30 minutes. There will be a logarithmic series of pulls and releases in this time frame. This helps relieve pressure on your discs. It allows them to be decompressed and hydrated. This stimulates the imbibition and osmotic process in your lumbar spine for healing.
Dr. Howard Dennis and his Elizabethton Chiropractic team of therapists will monitor you throughout this process. If at any time during the treatment you should need something, we will be right there to assist you. As soon as the treatment is over, the table will be raised up. All harnesses will be taken off and your Spinal Decompression therapy will be complete.
